Douro Valley
The impressive cultural landscape of the Douro, the first wine region demarcated in the world in 1756 and also considered a World Heritage Site in 2001 in recognition of the spectacular beauty of both the natural and built landscape and the heritage associated with the Port producing industry. During centuries, local people have produced a great variety of outstanding wines, fighting against natural adversities such as soil poverty, large slopes and irregular rainfall. Traditional and modern vineyards reveal the long regional history recorded in the landscape – an exclusive cultural heritage. Douro Valley offers a unique landscape in the world, but also unique experiences, wonderful wine hotels, the substance gastronomy, cruising up the Douro river, and of course the wines - Port Wine, DOC Douro and Muscatel wines. Douro region waits for you, whether you come by car, boat, train or helicopter!
Cruises in Douro River
The Douro River is the second largest river in Portugal. In Portuguese territory it is 210 km long and is navigable throughout this route, thanks to the five dams which are also an attraction due to its unevenness. In the traditional Rabelo boats or in larger boats, discover the beautiful landscapes of the Douro Valley and the river that once made the transport of Port wine to the aging Cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. Welcome aboard !
